ABOUT US
Here, in the majestic Ex Convent of Our Lady of Monserrat, we have been safeguarding the history and traditions of Charreria since 1972.
The Charreria Museum in Mexico City offers unique pieces from different historical periods of Mexico's most representative cultural expression. Charreria is a tradition deeply rooted in the Mexican countryside since the 19th century. It emerged from the close relationship between man, horse, and livestock—a fervent companionship that has endured throughout the history of our country. This practice has transcended the boundaries of culture and art to become a nationally recognized sport since the 1930s. In 2016, UNESCO declared it Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity®, and the Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of the Union recognized it as Cultural Heritage of Mexico.
EXHIBITION
The collection includes more than 500 pieces from different historical periods, representative of the great diversity of the utilitarian, artisanal and artistic aspects of Mexican Charreria.
Welcome to the fascinating universe of Charreria, a cultural expression that has endured through the centuries, weaving the history of Mexico with threads of tradition and bravery. At the heart of this museum lie treasures that tell the epic story of the charros and skirmishes, from their origins to the present day.
Our collection is a vibrant mosaic of eras and functions, a living testament to the versatility and adaptability of Charrería over time. From the dawn of the Republic to the transformations of the modern era, each piece showcases the master craftsmanship and technical ingenuity of those who forged this great tradition.
